"One person has died in the Etmadpur area of Agra after a tree fell on his kuccha house". The financial help to the families of deceased was being provided, he added. Mango crops and other crops were also damaged in incidents.

"We have ordered all government hospitals to treat free of cost those injured in Wednesday night's storm", Sharma said.

In Mathura's Mant tehsil, 55-year-old Shakuntala Singh was killed after he came in contact with an electricity pole. Mukhtayari, hailed from same area, severely injured by electric poll succumbed to her injuries during treatment. An official release said he asked the ministers-in-charge and district magistrates to visit the affected districts. Financial help for the families of deceased will be provided after their post-mortem report, he said.

In its latest forecast, the department has also predicted an increase in maximum temperatures by at least 3 degrees Celsius during the next 2-3 days, due to north-westerly winds prevailing over the region.


"Four to five people were injured in freak accidents caused by winds that was followed by rain or hail at several places", the official said.

On Wednesday night, four people died in Etawah district, three in Mathura district and one each in Agra, Aligarh, Kanpur and Firozabad towns in Uttar Pradesh state, Awasthi said.

In Uttar Pradesh, dust storm, lightning and heavy rain claimed 16 lives in Mathura, Etawaha, Aligarh, Hathras and Agra districts.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today issued directives to expedite the rescue and relief operations on a war footing.
