3 dead, 1 injured in sword attack on Indonesia police headquarters

Four attackers wielding samurai swords targeted a police station in western Indonesia on Wednesday morning, killing at least one officer, police said.

"Four masked men rushed out of the vehicle and attacked the officers using swords", national police spokesman Setyo Wasisto told reporters in Jakarta.

Previously Police chief of Riau province Inspector General Nandang said that a total of eight militants with a white minivan staged the attacks.

The attack comes as the Southeast Asian nation has been rocked by a series of deadly attacks on churches and a police station, involving multiple suicide bombings carried out by families, including young children.

Last year, a suicide bombing at a bus station in Jakarta killed three police officers.

The spokesman said that a journalist who had been at the police station was also hurt after being hit by the vehicle.

The National Police's elite antiterrorism squad, Detachment 88, has captured several suspected terrorists in East Java, North Sumatra and South Sumatra following the incidents in Surabaya and Sidoarjo.

Tourists and Visitors should think twice before traveling to Indonesia, especially Bali as a wave of terror attacks have swept the country.

All six bombers were killed, including the mother who was Indonesia's first known female suicide bomber.

This was the second attack on a police premise in the country since Monday.

The next day, members of another family blew themselves up at a police station in the city, wounding 10.

Local police initially said they had killed three people and wounded another.

Following the 2002 Bali bombings, it had been widely praised for its sustained anti-terrorism crackdown.

But, the country now faces a new threat, in part from from IS fighters who have come home after combat in Syria.
