Cashier-free Amazon Go stores are coming to Chicago and San Francisco

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed with GeekWire that the company is opening Amazon Go locations in Chicago and San Francisco, but did not provide a timetable.

Recode reported earlier this year that Amazon plans to open as many as six additional Amazon Go stores beyond the original Seattle location.

There were hints that Amazon Go locations were heading to San Francisco and Chicago, according to the news report.

Amazon Go is headed for Chicago and San Francisco. A specific timeline for the IL store is unknown at this time.

In addition, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on May 13 that a formal announcement of an Amazon store near the city's Union Square was expected in the coming weeks. Aside from Seattle, Los Angeles is also a possible location of another cashierless store. (NASDAQ:AMZN) likes what it sees from its futuristic cashierless store concept. Then they need to open the app on their phone and scan it at one of the four turnstiles to enter the 1,800 square foot store. "No lines, no checkout", according to the company.

For taking up the advantage of shopping in the Seattle store, customers need to first download the Amazon Go app and link it to a payment method.

The technology, which Amazon refers to as "Just Walk Out Technology", uses cameras, sensors, and artificial intelligence to automatically detect when products are taken from or returned to the shelves.

The 11 key-factors they looked at include restaurants participating in Prime Now, Amazon bookstores, free two-hour Whole Food delivery and Amazon Lockers.
