Hailey Baldwin Joins Paris Hilton at 'The American Meme' Premiere

"It felt like I'd lost part of my soul and been talked about in such cruel and mean ways", she recalls.

'I literally wanted to die at some points. "I was like, 'I just don't want to live'". I know they're not judging me, they're not trying to use me. However, when people think of Paris Hilton chances are, it's not her reality-TV career that pops into their minds.

Paris became famous when she starred in 19 for Vanity Fair with her sister Nicky Hilton.

Paris Hilton has reflected on her leaked notorious sex tape and the devastating impact it had on her life following its release, claiming it felt like rape.

"I've been through so much in life and I don't really trust people".

"I could have been like that, but because of that tape, I will always be judged and thought of as whatever they say about me because of a private moment between my boyfriend and me". From fashion lines, to modeling, to acting, to perfume fragrances, philanthropy and her successful DJ career, Hilton shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Hilton features in the documentary This American Meme, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, and documents the rise of social media stars.

Hilton has indeed come a long way from that sex tape and her wild lifestyle.

"I shouldn't have to constantly be on the defense, listing off my accomplishments just to prove that I am more than something that happened 13 years ago", she shared.

In the new documentary, she allows herself to be who she really is. "It's something that just changed my life forever and I'll never be able to erase it".

She ended up countersuing and they settled out of court, with Paris saying she planned on donating some of her proceeds to charity.

Her feelings around being "raped" likely carry more weight in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

The director for The American Meme praised Hilton for her candour.

Paris previously told Piers Morgan she "never saw a dime" from the video, but I find that hard to believe. "I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me".

Hilton is now engaged to actor Chris Zylka and told the audience at the film's debut that she was excited for the next stage of her life with "the man of my dreams".
