Men's Golf headed to 11th-straight National Tournament

Both the Oklahoma and Oklahoma State men's golf teams won their respective NCAA regionals on Wednesday.

The regional was one of six being conducted to determine the field for the NCAA Championship finals, which will be contested May 25-30 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater.

One day after shooting a ten under 274 to open regional play, the Yellow Jackets as a team shot a five under 279 to keep themselves in the hunt at the NCAA Regionals. In the next round, he shot three-under-par and moved him up into a tie for 42nd place.

North Dakota State won The Summit League Men's Golf Championship for the first time in program history and established a new single-season program record for team scoring average with a 293.33 stroke average in 33 rounds this season.

Senior Michael Sharp and sophomore Kaleb Johnson, who were the Spartans' top finishers on five occasions each this season, again led MSU by tying for 24th place at 7-over-par 220.

"We got off to as bad of a start as we possibly could through the first 5 holes", said CCU head coach Jim Garren.

Oklahoma State took first place in the Columbus Regional.


Coach David Inglis recalled the narrow loss past year at Regionals as well, and said he was proud and excited about how far the team had come since.

IL will head home and then it's on to Stillwater, Oklahoma for the NCAA Championships starting May 25.

Hitt stood out as the heighest finishing Tar Heel in a three-way tie for 3rd place. "They really had to dig deep to put the ball in the hole and they finished strong over the final few holes (Wednesday)".

Individually, Baylor was led by Cooper Dossey who held a share of the lead after round one. Texas Tech, Iowa State and Baylor also have qualified for the NCAA Championships. ISU and the Crimson Tide sit one-stroke ahead of Kansas with 18 holes of golf to play. "I was proud of the guys' fight and our score doesn't indicate how we played".

Junior Blaine Hale shot 73 (+1) for the Sooners on Wednesday to end up with a 54-hole score of seven-under 209, good for fourth place.
