Michael Carrick: 'Support for Sir Alex Ferguson shows respect'

On Saturday evening, Manchester United announced that their former, long-time manager had suffered the haemorrhage.

You can take the man of football but you cannot take football out of the man.

A source told the newspaper that this was 'Typical Sir Alex.

The former United boss has since woken up and is said to have joked about attending Liverpool's Champions League final clash with Real Madrid.

Manchester United were pictured arriving at their Carrington training ground on Wednesday morning as they undergo final preparations ahead of Thursday's game against West Ham.

"The whole football world is incredible but outside of that as well, from all corners of the globe and different walks of life, people have shown their support".

"That's the effect he had on people". They bought Saha; I remember a lot of the boys telling me when I'd go away with England, "I thought you were actually coming".

"Of course he has qualities that we believe can make him a good coach and there are many ways to do the bridge between player and coaching staff. I think Michael can be very positive for us".

Mourinho was reluctant to go into detail but did say the club are optimistic Ferguson will make a full recovery. "He has been the biggest influence in my career, both on and off the pitch".

When news reached Young - who was signed by Ferguson in 2011 - he was "lost for words".

"I don't know where I will be. Hopefully, he'll recover well".

The Frenchman, whose control of Arsenal was reminiscent of Ferguson's at United, is preparing to leave the London club after 22 years as manager.

Arsene Wenger's final trip to Old Trafford as manager started with a "classy" welcome, yielded a late defeat and ended with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho eyeing further battles in the future. God knows everything so I hope he can help him.

"We have been thinking about him and his family, I know them all well". When I heard the news my heart dropped straight away; I want to wish him and the family all the best.
