Four Northeast Iowa schools hit the top 30 for the state in U.S. News & World Report's 2018 ranking of Best High Schools.

Schools were ranked based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepared students for college.

Check out the list below to see the 23 New Jersey school that made the top 500 and browse the full rankings here. It is a silver medal school.

Schools were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

The magnet school was ranked 8 out of 670 public high schools in IL and 261 out of 20,548 public high schools in the country that U.S. News reviewed - good enough for a Gold medal.

The first step determines "whether each school's students were performing better than statistically expected for students in the state".

Nationally, only Boston Latin School earned its way into the top 100 on the U.S. News list.

Next, each school's reading and mathematics assessment scores are compared among their historically underserved students - black, Hispanic and low-income - with the average statewide results for those subgroups. Nationally, it ranks 1,473rd out of more than 20,000 high schools.

The school was ranked 17th in the entire state and was outperformed by 13 New York City Public Schools, two schools in Westchester County and one school on Long Island.

Each of Arkansas' top three high schools this year are open-enrollment charter schools. Gautier's 90 percent graduation rate topped Ocean Springs' 87 percent, but Gautier only received a 13.4 CRI.
