Packers not now interested in Dez Bryant

Former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten heated up the Bryant-to-Green Bay rumors when he predicted that his former teammate would end up signing with the Packers.

The Cowboys released Bryant in April after eight years with the team.

The Green Bay Packers recently parted ways with superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers' favorite target in veteran wide receiver Jordy Nelson. However, not long after Witten's opinion surfaced, the potential pairing was downplayed with the Packers reportedly not expected to sign Bryant, via Pro Football Talk. According to Witten, the Packers check all of the boxes for Bryant, who is seeking a one-year deal.

"I think Dez is certainly going to have some great opportunities".

Witten believes Bryant is looking for the best chance to win and a quarterback who can drop accurate fade throws, something every Packer fan knows Aaron Rodgers is more than capable of doing.

Interest from the Packers' side on Bryant has felt lukewarm throughout the process.

"I still think Dez can still high-point the football as good as any other wide receiver in the National Football League". Aaron Rodgers, he throws that back-shoulder throw so well. "I look for him to go there, and really help them take the next step and get back on a playoff run".

Witten also mentioned the New Orleans Saints as a possibility, but let's look at the Packers.

The talented trio of Cobb, Davante Adams, and newcomer Jimmy Graham is a solid group of targets for Rodgers as Green Bay tries to bounce back from missing the playoffs previous year. Brown and Trevor Davis, among others. However, adding him would do nothing to fix the Packers' below-average defense, which ranked 26th in points allowed (384) last season. Bryant has regressed since signing a five-year extension with the Cowboys before the 2015 season, failing to reach the 1,000-yard mark and double-digit touchdowns in the past three seasons.
