Real or Not? Mookie Betts is playing like an MVP again

After a home run by Mookie Betts helped the Red Sox get within 4-3 headed into the last of the fourth, the Rangers took advantage of the wildness of Boston starter David Price (2-4) to knock out the star left-hander. The slugger went 3-for-5 with six RBI in a 12-4 win over the Rangers, blasting his homers in the first (three-run), second (two-run), and eighth innings (solo).

Meanwhile in Cleveland, Encarnacion posted six RBIs to personally outscore the Texas Rangers in a 12-4 win.

Aroldis Chapman struck out AL MVP Jose Altuve on three straight 101 miles per hour fastballs with two on to end the game, and the New York Yankees got a key hit from rookie Gleyber Torres during a three-run rally in the ninth inning to seesaw past the Houston Astros 6-5 Thursday.

BOSTON- Mookie Betts passed Boston Red Sox legend Ted Williams in the record books Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals.

With two out, Rafael Devers pounded on another slider and belted it off the right-field wall for a double.

Price took his third straight loss, charged with nine runs (seven earned) in 3 2/3 innings. Royals 3, Red Sox 0.

Nolan Arenado hit two of Colorado's four homers and drove in five runs to back Tyler Anderson and lift the Rockies to a victory over the Chicago Cubs. He gave up an inside-the-park home run to Denard Span with a runner aboard in the second inning then served up an over-the-fence home run to catcher Wilson Ramos in the third. Jon Gray pitched seven innings against Chicago, which had won five in a row.

And his 68 career home runs out of the leadoff spot is just one behind Dom DiMaggio for the most in Red Sox franchise history.

Bartolo Colon (1-0, 2.87 ERA) will oppose Porcello on Friday.

"It was more of just thinking about putting it in play versus driving (the ball with two strikes)", Betts said. The bullpen has logged an ERA of 3.69, along with a K-per-9 of 9.77. Minor punched out four on the night and didn't walk a batter. He struck out three. He allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings of work. Note that there were 41 home runs in 15 games on Tuesday and 42 in 15 games on Wednesday, both higher per game rates than the 2017 season rate. Texas is 6-20 in its last 26 at home and 1-4 in its last five at home against opponents with road winning percentages over.600.

Betts has 11 of them (most in the majors) through the Sox' first 30 games and is on pace to hit 59 homers this season after hitting just 24 a year ago.
