Saints' Mark Ingram Suspended Four Games By NFL For PED Violation

ESPN reported Ingram will miss games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants.

Despite the suspension, Ingram will still be allowed to participate in everything the Saints do this offseason, which means he'll be at training camp and he'll be allowed to play in each of the team's four preseason games.

The NFL has handed Ingram a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

New Orleans does have a capable replacement in the electrifying Alvin Kamara, who was named the NFL Rookie of the Year last season. His finest campaign came a year ago, when Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara became the first backfield tandem to each eclipse the 1,500-yard mark with scrimmage yards. He led the team in rushing in 2018 and was voted onto the Pro Bowl a year ago for the second time.

Kamara took on a slightly larger share of the workload down the stretch last season - which could remain the norm even when Ingram returns.

It's unclear who will be next in line in the Saints backfield after Kamara.

The good news for the Saints is that if there's one team in the National Football League that can afford to lose their leading rusher for four games, it might be New Orleans. So that competition will be worth monitoring this summer.

Ingram, a former Heisman Trophy victor from Alabama, was one of the team's first-round draft picks in 2011 and led the team in rushing in 2017 with 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has rushed for 5,362 yards and 44 touchdowns while adding 207 catches and four more scores.
