WEATHER ALERT DAY: Severe storms possible Thursday night

WEATHER ALERT DAY: Severe storms possible Thursday night

A few severe storms could occur across the northeast plains along a frontal boundary.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for the entire CBS 6 viewing area.

If you have any severe weather reports, please post them in the comments section. But the storms will begin to pop up as many people are getting home from work. Large hail, damaging winds and a low threat of tornadic thunderstorm will be possible.

Added to the mix is a very slight threat of isolated tornadoes in New Jersey - a 2 percent probability, according to the eastern regional office of the National Weather Service.

Mother's Day on Sunday is looking to be partly sunny during the day before another round of showers and storms move in late Sunday night. Expect highs to top off in the mid to upper 80s by this afternoon.

Warm temperatures will hold on into the weekend, too, as the mercury rises to 88 on Friday, 91 on Saturday and a sweltering 93 degrees on Sunday.

Saturday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 89, the weather service said, and a south wind of 9 to 13 miles per hour.
