Will Trump's Lobbying Hurt The US-Canada-Mexico World Cup Bid?

Will Trump's Lobbying Hurt The US-Canada-Mexico World Cup Bid?

Days after FIFA's statement, during a joint press conference with Nigeria's president Muhammadu Buhari at the White House, Trump repeated his veiled threat. The president finished by saying that they will be watching very closely and that they will appreciate any help they can give them in their bid.

Morocco is one of two bidders for the 2026 World Cup.

"We feel we're going to get strong support across Europe regardless of the geopolitics", Carlos Cordeiro said on Thursday at a campaign event in Denmark that was also attended by rival bidder Morocco. The country has made four other bids in the past but they have not won.

Trump's blunders are indirectly boosting Morocco's chances to win the vote of the 206 football associations on June 13 as the North African country capitalizes on its security, stability and tourist-friendliness in contrast to the security-approach governing the USA visa procedures. Six African national FAs contacted by KweséESPN have since declined to say whether they will back the U.S. -Mexico-Canada joint bid or a rival effort from Morocco. The US hosted the tournament 24 years ago.

Federation Internationale de Football Association is to grant African teams qualified for the 2018 World Cup $2 million prize cash, says Reuters on Tuesday.

Olsson says FIFA's plan to share more than $2 billion in prize money among Club World Cup teams would "increase the financial and sporting gap" between European clubs.

"Russia is ready for the tournament", and has only some last-minute "fine-tuning" to do, Putin said after meeting in Sochi with Gianni Infantino, president of soccer's world governing body, FIFA.

The statement comes one month ahead of the big day, when 211 worldwide football federations will gather in Moscow to vote for the host of the tournament.

The first World Cup staged in eastern Europe will be the most expensive ever and comes in the heat of flaring tensions between Russian Federation and the West. 16 more teams will compete in this tournament, adding more games and changing the group stage, which will have three teams.
