Ahmed Musa Stars As Nigeria Claim First Victory

Musa is now the first Nigerian player to score a brace in two FIFA World Cup matches.

With the win, Nigeria moves into second place in the group with three points from two games, ahead of Argentina and Iceland with one point each.

The African side will secure a spot in the knockout stage alongside Croatia if they beat Argentina.

He hit the bar shortly before making it 2-0 in the 75th minute when he used his pace to beat Iceland defender Kari Arnason and rounded goalkeeper Hannes Por Halldorsson before slamming the ball into the net.

Argentina are yet to win a match in this World Cup.

Gylfi Sigurdsson skied a VAR-confirmed penalty kick with 10 minutes to go, and Iceland could not recover, staying on a point with Argentina.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr made some tactical changes, including bringing Musa into the starting lineup to inject some pace into the attack.

"My players are still growing and only Victor Moses and Mikel Obi are the experienced players in the team".

Iceland play Nigeria on Friday.

"They did this for the country, for the team. I thought before this World Cup we were here to learn", said the German.

In the United States (US), the game can be watched live and on-demand with fuboTV (7-day free trial).

But they missed the pace of winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson who was injured in the Argentina game.

Stoke City new boy Oghenekaro Etebo has been given a more offensive role than what he played against Croatia and he is expected to play behind the twin strike force of Ahmed Musa and Iheanacho.
