Ashley Westwood reckons referee might've cost Brazil the game against Switzerland

However, Switzerland, who had looked toothless throughout the first half, got back on level terms five minutes into the second period when Zuber rose unmarked to head home a corner kick.

Brazil's stuttering performance stemmed from anxiety at playing their first World Cup game, coach Tite said after their 1-1 draw with Switzerland in Group E on Sunday.

"In a World Cup, about 45 per cent of the goals come from set pieces", he explained.

With the exception of Coutinho, nearly all of Brazil's creativity went down the drain as Switzerland swiftly took control of the proceedings at the expense of a dismal approach adopted by the five-time World Cup winners.

"In the second half, I told them to remain calm, focused, believe in ourselves and try and push higher up on the pitch and create possibilities and opportunities to score, and that's what we did".

Gabriel Jesus also appealed for a penalty when he clashed with Manuel Akanji in the box, but Marcelo did not want to make excuses for Brazil's inability to turn a dominant display into three points. There was a lot of anxiety, too much pressure and it translated into our way of playing, we were not precise enough.

"I can't coach a team who complains".

"I think, he has to understand (what) his role in that (Brazil) team".

Neymar's flamboyant blond "spaghetti" haircut certainly caught the eye although he only gave glimpses of the spectacular dribbles and plays he is renowned for and which led Paris St. Germain to shell out 222 million euros for. Willian will play on the right of attack and Neymar on the left.

The match was full of fouls - 30 in total - 10 of which were directed at Brazil's superstar striker Neymar Jr. That approach backfired as Vladimir Petkovic's side slowly took control of the proceedings.

"I am very proud of my team's discipline, it was everything we talked about", he said.

"Sometimes, there is a lack of recognition and that is a pity".
