E3 2018: Sony Responds To Anger Over Fortnite Cross-Play Block

In the first 24 hours, over two million Switch owners downloaded the game. "Ultimate", its mascot-versus-mascot fighting game coming to the Nintendo Switch on December 7. "I was a tester on PC whos (sic) finished every season and spent hundreds of dollars on the game but nope no Switch play for me since I played once on a PS4", said one person on Reddit.

The backlash against Sony for blocking Fortnite cross-play on the PlayStation 4 with other console gamers is growing. You can play solo or join up with a group of friends to take down the rest of the gamers.

These new additions could almost triple the amount of "viable" stages while also adding much more depth and variety to the selection for more casual players looking for fairer matches without needing to worry about hazards or heading straight for Final Destination and add more to the stage select meta for more competitive players. For example, an Xbox One player could compete against PC gamers.

After the Smash Ultimate Direct aired, a lot of folks had already gotten over the hype and were accusing Nintendo of porting the Wii U edition, adding a few characters and stages, and calling it a day. Moreover, Sony has blocked account progression syncing between devices. Naturally, this left many fans upset and disappointed, as this meant that they would be unable to access various skins and emotes they had collected (or bought) since playing. Now, Sony has released a response to the controversy.

"With. more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we've built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles". Though the error message you receive when you try to log into Fortnite on Switch with a PS4-associated Epic account squarely puts the blame on the platform itself (in other words, Sony), it's unusual that unlinking your PSN account doesn't even fix it.

"This "Fortnite" account is associated with a platform which does not allow it to operate on Switch", the game said.

Nintendo used its presentation at today's E3 presentation in Los Angeles to make sure that the world knows that Fortnite will be enhancing the appeal of the Switch console. "And for us, at Nintendo, we believe that honoring the vision of a developer, honoring the fans and allowing the crossplay is really the right thing to do".
