European Union should help push Iran out of Syria: opposition negotiator

"We have one option, to live with each other as Syrians".

Assad reiterated the government's denial that it carried out the attack in the eastern Ghouta town of Douma, saying that the government did not have chemical weapons and it would not have been in its interest to carry out such a strike.

Last year, the U.S. began arming them before an offensive to recapture Raqqa, the former de facto capital of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS).

"So, it was a narrative, it was just a pretext in order to attack Syria", he said.

The Kremlin said the conversation focused on "some aspects of the Syrian settlement", which it didn't specify, following up on the two leaders' talks in Moscow earlier this month.

First, the pull out of United States forces within the next six months-at a time when Iran is in the process of establishing several permanent military bases in Syria, loaded with medium and long-range missiles that can reach any part of Israel-is a recipe for war between Israel and Iran.

He added that the Russian and USA militaries have maintained regular contacts on the issue.

"Thankfully, it has been averted, not by the knowledge of the American management, however by the knowledge of the Russian management".

"This demonstrates that (the insurgents) are keen to determine whether the Israeli soldiers were buried in this cemetery", he said, denying reports that the bodies were ever buried in it.

"This is a kind of hysterical feeling, because they are losing the dear and ISIS (Daesh)", he pointed out. The president believes that Damascus is close to winning the seven-year war, despite continued "US interference".

For Israel, the goal is to stop Iran's penetration of Syria and weapons transfers to Hezbollah. "The only option is to improve our air defense, this is the only thing we can do, and we are doing that". This inevitably compelled Israel to support Washington's decision to demand Tehran to withdraw all unwanted military forces under its command from Syria. It will be left to Russia, Iran, and to a lesser extent Turkey to determine the future of Syria, when in fact American allies in the region will be adversely affected in one form or another by the nature of any outcome. "We never had, and you can not hide it", the Syrian president said.

The situation near the northern borders of Israel and southern borders of Syria has been in the spotlight of officials and media outlets recently since the Syrian army has been planning an offensive to recapture its southern territories from militants.

"The starkest fact about their (the Israelis') lies about this issue, the Iranian issue, is the recent attack a few weeks ago", he said.
