‘First Man’ Trailer Gives First Look at Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong

For his next film, Chazelle is going to space - and he's taking Ryan Gosling with him.

Ryan Gosling takes on First Man, based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by author James R. Hansen, which was published by Simon & Schuster in 2005. Following astronaut adventures like The Right Stuff and Hidden Figures, First Man focuses on Neil Armstrong and his spacefaring buddies at NASA during the Apollo moonshot missions of the late 1960s. The skit on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" is included here.

The trailer, in addition to giving the first glimpse of Gosling as Armstrong, also showed Claire Foy as his concerned wife, Janet.

Chazelle has rounded up a spectacular cast, which includes Kyle Chandler, Pablo Schreiber, Jason Clarke, Ciaran Hinds and Corey Stoll, among others and it has our space nerd sense tingling.

Universal Pictures has released the first poster for First Man, giving hopefuls an up-close-and-personal look at Gosling as Armstrong.

The film shows everything experienced by Armstrong from his days of training for the unsafe mission, to how it affected his family life, right through to the actual experience of the journey. The film includes interviews with reporters, asking him hard questions. Does the poster remind you of one for Mission: Impossible as it does me? Neil Armstrong faces questions from politicians, and is even asked by his son, "Do you think you're coming back?"

First Man is set to hit theaters October 12.
