Jared Leto Reportedly Getting His Own Joker Solo Movie? Not So Fast!

U.S. actor Jared Leto poses as he arrives to attend the European premiere of the film Suicide Squad in central London on August 3, 2016.

There's also a Joker origin movie, helmed by Todd Phillips, which will reportedly be separated from the main DCEU. In addition to the impending Suicide Squad 2 with director Gavin O'Connor, a "Mad Love" style movie with Harley and Joker is also in development.

Previously, the film studios confirmed Margot Robbie's upcoming production, Birds Of Prey, which centers around her character, Harley Quinn.

There has been no update on Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie, to be directed by Matt Reeves.

Joaquin Phoenix is already set to play the Joker (reportedly) in that above-mentioned 1980's set origin film, but as it will be under what Variety is terming an "origins" banner, it will be firmly set outside of the continuity of the mainline DCU on film.

And while many fans of Suicide Squad will be pleased to hear the news, the critical reception of Jared Leto's "The Joker" was polarizing, with some praising it, and others hating it. Leto pretty much had a cameo in the film and was rarely seen.

The joke's on, Jared Leto. Much like how Warner Bros. stressed past year that that film did not mean Leto was out as the Clown Prince of Crime in the DCU, it would seem Phillips' film isn't off the table either. Yet.

When Jared Leto's unusual portrayal of the Joker made an appearance in Warner Bros' Suicide Squad movie, I think it's safe to say that many people were left a little disappointed and underwhelmed after all the hype around the actor's performance. You can read the original report over at Variety.
