Liverpool close in on £70million deal

"Nabil Fekir has a past at Olympique Lyonnais".

And according to French daily Le Progres, the Lyon president has still not lost hope that he will be able to convince Fekir to spend at least one more season with the Ligue 1 giants.

Liverpool are reportedly close to wrapping up the signing of Nabil Fekir from French giants Lyon.

Bernes claimed that while "Liverpool's interest exists", the two clubs are yet to agree a deal for Fakir, who is expected to move for around £60 million.

According to the same story, Fekir himself is keen on a move to Merseyside and he wants to have his future resolved before the start of the World Cup in Russian Federation later this month.

The 24-year-old's impressive form has been noticed by a number of clubs, including the Reds, but discussions between club and player are yet to take place, according to Fekir's agent Jean-Pierre Bernes. "This transfer window can be long".

Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele has also been on the Liverpool radar over the past week but an agreement for Fekir may end any further interest in the former Borussia Dortmund ace.

Fekir is now with the France squad for the upcoming World Cup having earned his place in Didier Deschamps' 23-man roster.

Liverpool FC have already quickly got their summer transfer business under way by concluding a deal to bring Brazilian midfielder Fabinho to Anfield last month.

On Thursday last week, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid were reported as having joined the race to sign Fekir but it would appear as though that was just a way to generate clicks from anxious supporters.
