Lyon say Nabil Fekir transfer negotiations with Liverpool have ended

The deal looked all but finalised, however with numerous reports claiming that Liverpool attempted to negotiate a cheaper price with Lyon after they found a concern with the player's knee during the medical, the deal fell through and the French club confirmed they wouldn't be selling the forward.

The France global was expected to join Jurgen Klopp's side before Les Bleus left for the World Cup, but Lyon have now halted talks and called off the deal.

"Olympique Lyonnais informs that the tripartite negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and that Olympique Lyonnais has made a decision to put an end to this negotiation", read a statement on the club's official website.

Before Lyon's announcement, reports in France claimed the country's football association chief Noel Le Graet had suggested the transfer was nearly complete.

And Spurs fans, who saw their side fleetingly linked with Fekir before Liverpool's interest became prominent, are now hoping their side make a move for the Frenchman, if only for the accompanying bragging rights it would give them over their Premier League rivals.

Fans will no doubt be keen to discover whether they will be able to get a new name on the back of their shirts as Liverpool remain keen to strengthen in the transfer window this summer.

Fekir scored 21 goals and added nine assists in 39 appearances for Lyon last season.
