Melania Trump's 'I Really Don't Care' Jacket Snafu Leaves Pundits Befuddled

Melania Trump's 'I Really Don't Care' Jacket Snafu Leaves Pundits Befuddled

Third-graders welcomed the first lady with a large paper American flag they'd signed taped to a wall.

Ahead of a visit with victims of Hurricane Harvey previous year, photos of the first lady heading to the airport in stiletto heels drew ire on social media.

Brushing off the controversy she received by wearing the jacket, Melania took to Instagram to post a heartwarming message of support for the affected families at the USA border.

Stephanie Grisham, Melania's spokesperson, said the First Lady was keen to thank staff and have a look at the facilities for herself. There was no hidden message.

Grisham underscored that message in a tweet with the hashtags #SheCares and #ItsJustAJacket. And soon after, the president tweeted that it "refers to the Fake News Media".

When asked what message the first lady's jacket meant to send, spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said: "It's a jacket".

Trump wore the jacket as she boarded a flight en route to visit a group of migrant children in Texas. And that is especially true of First Lady Melania Trump, whose style can best be described as uninspiring.

The family separations controversy blew up last week amid images of children wailing and in cages.

The backlash came fast and furious on Twitter, threatening to undercut the compassionate visit to the shelter.

During her visit to the Upbringing New Hope Children's Shelter, Melania said: 'I'm looking forward to meeting the children'. She put the jacket back on as she disembarked from her plane back at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington. I don't really know - and don't even want to speculate.

Patty Murray of Washington, the top Democrat on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, on Thursday wrote Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar seeking answers she did not get during a June 12 hearing. Their physical and mental states are immediately assessed, and they are given orientation.

Melania, 48, was not wearing the branded Zara jacket when she landed in McAllen, Texas yesterday on a visit to personally witness the humanitarian situation along the US-Mexico border that has captured global attention.

The first lady's visit comes as President Donald Trump's administration has separated members of families that cross U.S. borders illegally, sending thousands of children to holding camps around the country. The Trump administration's so-called zero tolerance policy will remain in place, but families will be kept together in detention.

A second source said that Melania was aware that she was going to create drama with her fashion choice but chose to move forward anyway because she is already in knee-deep with her husband.
