Stephen Curry Speaks Highly of LeBron James Ahead of Game 1

He missed the second, but the Cavs still had a shot to win the game since they got the ball back on the rebound. Smith could've attempted a putback or passed to a wide open LeBron James for the potential game-winning shot at the top of the key.

Thursday's play set the basketball-watching world in a tailspin. Hill hit the first shot to tie the game but missed the second.

"He thought it was over", Lue said. "We shuffled in different lineups, we shuffled in different players, we made a trade at the deadline, and I can't sit here right now and say that the Finals was a part of my thinking". It was determined he was out of the restricted area, but he was not in a legal guarding position prior to Durant's separate shooting motion. "We want everybody playing, everybody healthy and out there competing".

With the Cavaliers leading 104-102 with 30 seconds remaining, Kevin Durant drove into the lane and was met by LeBron James, who slid in for the stop.

"There's still confusion about whether J.R. thought the game was tied or if he thought you guys were ahead", a reporter asked James in the post match press conference.

Whatever the reason for Smith's miscue, Golden State took advantage of the mistake to score the first nine points of overtime on their way to victory.

But the lasting image of this game will be of James calling for the ball behind the 3-point line as Smith dribbled out the clock in a play reminiscent of one made by Dallas' Derek Harper in a playoff loss to the Lakers 34 years ago.

The game almost over, James jawed with both Curry and Klay Thompson, then Tristan Thompson and Draymond Green tangled moments later and made contact. Instead, Steve Kerr and company will likely adjust the game plan to prevent the Cavs from being this close from here on out.

Steph Curry scored 29 and Klay Thompson added 24 in the win, with the Splash Brothers combining to make 10-of-21 (47.6%) from three-point range. I'm pretty sure everybody didn't think I was going to shoot it over KD right there.

James got the first-half help he needed, not only from Love (12 points and eight rebounds in the first half), but also Smith (seven points plus four rebounds) and Larry Nance Jr.

Draymond Green flirted with a triple double by notching 13 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
