Zsa Zsa The English Bulldog Names World’s Ugliest Dog

The English Bulldog, with her massive underbite and dangling tongue, won the World's Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma Marina Fairgrounds on Saturday.

Rascal Deux is held by owner Dane Andrew before competing in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif., Saturday, June 23, 2018. Zsa Zsa was one of 14 contestants vying to be ugliest. This world-renowned event celebrates the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique.

This year's dogs include a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested-Dachshund mutt and a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin.

The victor takes home $US1500 ($1900).

Named after the late Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, the dog spent five years in a puppy mill in Missouri before she was put up for auction and bought by a group called Underdog Rescue.

Last year's World's Ugliest Dog prize went to a 3-year-old, 125-pound (57-kilo) Neapolitan Mastiff named Martha. Her mother saw her attractive picture on pet finder and HAD TO HAVE HER!

The dogs and their handlers walked down a red carpet, as a panel of judges evaluated them. For Zsa Zsa's owner, that's definitely true: "She is so attractive in my eyes". "With so many lovable animals displaced and available for adoption, we want our fans to know what this contest is really about", Sonoma-Marin Fair Publicist, Christy Gentry, said in a statement.

The California fair tradition dates back 30 years.

The contest is created to promote pet adoption with numerous competitors rescued from shelters or puppy farms. It is usually held on Friday nights, but organisers moved the competition to Saturday in an effort to draw a bigger audience.
