Amazon Prime Day to give Indian customers many firsts

Amazon Prime Day to give Indian customers many firsts

Prime Day is Amazon's version of a clearance sale, which means you'll find a lot of random, unwanted items on sale.

The retail giant revealed it would hold its annual Prime Day on July 16, with Australia the first country to launch sales worldwide.

In addition, there will be new product category sections to browse and deals through Whole Foods, which it purchased past year for almost US$14 billion.

Amazon will also be offering deals on some pre-owned Amazon devices.

Amazon's Prime Day, which offers sales for members of the company's subscription program, will stretch from noon July 16 to the end of the day July 17.

Amazon raised the price 20% in May, to $119 a year.

While Prime Day is still a couple of weeks away, Amazon has kicked things off with some early deals, available from its Prime Day Hub.

This year's Amazon's Day has been a tightly controlled secret. Amazon has about 100 million Prime subscribers globally, out of which 10%, i.e. about 10 million are from India.

Offers that began today include discounts for the Echo Show, Amazon brands, Prime video, DVD and Blue-Ray, Amazon Music, Twitch Prime, Kindle Unlimited, eBooks and Audible.

Also new this year is that members can shop Prime Day Launches - new items, content, and special-edition products from an array of brands. Members will also receive exclusive in-game loot for Warframe and PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS. The company will be heavily promoting the Prime Day sale across all its marketing channels. Amazon said it signed up more new Prime members previous year on Prime Day than any other single day in company history.

The usual cost is £7.99 per month (£9.99 per month for non-Prime members), so that's a saving of £28 (or £36).

As we predicted, Amazon is already putting massive emphasis on their media services and Echo products, plus literally everything you'll need to give your home the summer glow up it deserves. After waiting around paying full-price for items we *need*, you best believe we'll be ready to go in on these deals. Alternatively, you can watch Alexa-related videos on the Amazon website while logged in, or download the Amazon App. To keep up with the latest and greatest, visit our article on the best Amazon Prime Day deals here.
