Barcelona confirm Malcom agreement a day after Roma bid accepted

Roma looked set to sign the promising young winger, but Barcelona lodged a last-minute bid to hijack a deal.

"There has been an approach from Barca", the source confirmed, after Bordeaux had reached an agreement earlier in the day to sell Malcom to Italian giants Roma.

FC Barcelona have announced the signing of a Brazilian forward, in a deal which is reportedly worth €41 million.

Bordeaux refused to sell Malcom in the January transfer window, with Gus Poyet announcing he would not have taken the manager's job without assurances the forward would remain until at least the end of the season.

Malcom Filipe Silva da Oliveira, now on the books of Bordeaux, will soon become Barcelona's third signing of the summer.

He was tipped to join Premier League club Everton, before Roma swooped in and agreed a £32m fee for the Brazilian, but Barcelona have gazumped the Giallorossi's offer and he will be heading to La Liga for the forthcoming campaign. Instead, terms were being negotiated with Barca, who had gazumped Roma's bid, which was reported to have been in the region of €32m.

Barcelona have already signed Clement Lenglet and Arthur this summer to add to their title winning squad from last season but have lost Paulinho and Andres Iniesta from their first team.

He made 38 appearances for Ligue 1 side Bordeaux last season, scoring 12 goals and assisting in another eight.
