Conte thanks players, staff and fans in gracious statement after Chelsea exit

"I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea", said Jorginho, who has penned a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge under new coach Maurizio Sarri, who managed the player in Italy. It wasn't easy for me to convince you in the beginning but in the end I hope I did you proud!

The 48-year-old Italian had a year remaining on his contract, but has left the Blues 55 days after lifting the 2018 FA Cup in his final match in charge - and having taken pre-season training earlier this week. "Best of luck, Maurizio!"

Manchester City are said to be "furious" at "unprofessional" Napoli for going back on an agreement to sell Jorginho to the Premier League champions, after the midfielder today joined Chelsea.

Conte's relationship with Chelsea's hierarchy was strained after disagreements over their transfer policy last season.

Playmaker Fabregas "liked" a message welcoming Conte's departure on Twitter, later apologising and suggesting he had pressed the button in error.

Sarri is the 13th permanent boss at Chelsea since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club in June 2003 and the sixth Italian to get the job.

"They didn't compete past year in the Premier League and I think when you look at those circumstances, there is a chance of you losing your job - whoever you are", claimed Wise.

There is a strong argument that this is the most turbulent time of Abramovich's ownership.

Jorginho played an important role in Sarri's Napoli and the deep-lying playmaker is seen as the ideal fit for the high-tempo, possession-based style of play that the new boss is expected to bring to Chelsea.

Sarri has replaced Conte as boss before, with a short-lived spell at Arezzo in 2006-07 before Conte was reappointed.

The Russian's visa issues, the indefinite halting of plans to rebuild Stamford Bridge and the challenge for consistent on-field success all point to hard times ahead.

De Laurentiis also said that Jorginho would be waiting for Sarri, 59, should he arrive in London.

This was finally confirmed on Friday via a statement released by the Blues, who wished Conte success in the future. "Thank you for everything boss".
