Donald Trump is facing an 'ultimate nightmare scenario'

Donald Trump has denied explosive claims by his former lawyer that he knew about a meeting between his son and a Russian promising to share damaging information about his rival candidate Hillary Clinton before the 2016 U.S. election.

CNN's sources said Cohen is willing to make those claims to Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation.

Citing a knowledgeable source, NBC reported that the attorney, Michael Cohen, says that President Trump was told ahead of time about the meeting by his son, Donald Trump Jr.

"Donald Trump Jr. has been professional and responsible throughout the Mueller and Congressional investigations", said Alan Futerfas, a lawyer for Donald Trump Jr.

The conversation between Trump and his then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, took place after the National Enquirer's parent company reached a deal to pay Karen McDougal for her story of an affair she says she had with Trump.

Following the report on the Trump Tower meeting, Giuliani told CNN's Chris Cuomo on Thursday that Cohen has "been lying for years. he's lied all his life", and said he doesn't "see how he has any credibility".

"The president did not do anything wrong", Giuliani said, adding that Cohen "cannot be trusted to tell the truth particularly if he can escape punishment".

This week in the Russian Federation investigations: Michael Cohen goes rogue; what would it mean if it is determined he is telling the truth?

The difference, Giuliani said Sunday, is that he has since learned that Cohen secretly taped clients, including Trump.

Mark Cuban, the billionaire businessman who was spotted dining with Cohen a few times in New York City previous year, told CNN that Cohen has mostly talked to him about his hopes of writing a book and about his son's baseball career.

Cohen is being represented by attorney Lanny Davis, a onetime counsel to President Bill Clinton - a fact to which Trump drew attention on Friday. "Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam (Taxi cabs maybe?)" the president tweeted Friday morning. But Davis said the president's team "forfeited all confidentiality" when Giuliani talked publicly last week about the tape.

Donald Trump Jr. has repeatedly denied that he told his father in advance about the 2016 Trump Tower meeting.

Trump's current attorney, Rudy Giuliani, said Cohen doesn't know what Trump knew about the Russian Federation meeting and suggested Cohen is willing to say anything about Trump to cut a better deal for himself.

Giuliani was even more explicit in his praise of Cohen in May, saying that Cohen is "an honest, honorable lawyer" when ABC's George Stephanopoulos asked if he was concerned that Cohen, who is under criminal investigation by the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan, would cooperate with prosecutors. We are very confident of the accuracy and reliability of the information that has been provided by Mr Trump Jr and on his behalf'.

The Thursday reports of Cohen's claims is further evidence that Cohen could flip on Trump in the Russian Federation investigation - which would be a nightmare for Trump's legal team.

Giuliani, who called Cohen "an honest, honorable lawyer" as recently as May, has made a sport out of bashing Cohen in recent days. Mr Trump has denied the affair. But he also left open the possibility that Trump might have known but later forgot about it.

Axios reported that Bannon does not have first-hand knowledge about whether Trump Jr. told his father, and Bannon later said his "treasonous" remark was directed at Manafort and not Trump Jr.

Echoing his previous complaints, the President called Robert Mueller's investigation a "rigged witch hunt" under the control of "13 angry Democrats".
