France, Uruguay set date for quarter-finals

Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani missed Monday's training and remains a doubt for this week's World Cup quarterfinal against France, though a muscle tear has been ruled out.

Cavani then had to be helped off by Ronaldo before watching the rest of the game from the dugout with ice on a calf injury.

Ronaldo's 24-year-old model girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez attended the Round of 16 game, where Portugal lost to Uruguay 1-2 and were ousted from the World Cup.

"He's essential, because of the kind of player he is, for what he has shown in every match he has played for the national team, not to mention in the present moment", he said.

The lingering question all week for Uruguay will be the health of Cavani after he scored two goals but limped off in the 70th minute with a leg injury.

Football fans were left scratching their heads when both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were both ousted in the round of 16, following Argentina's loss to France and Portugal falling to Uruguay.

Portugal manager Fernando Santos has said that he is hopeful Cristiano Ronaldo has not played his final ever match at the World Cup finals.

"But I do feel that the second half was very good from us in terms of desire and our determination to score".

Pepe headed Portugal level in the 55th minute, the first goal Uruguay have conceded in the tournament.

And against Uruguay, they managed 61 percent ball possession, played more than double the number of passes of their opponent, and with a much better pass accuracy.

The Paris St-Germain star put his side ahead in the seventh minute when he evaded the Portuguese defence to meet Luis Suarez's pinpoint cross with a bullet header at the back post.

Cavani injured is a national disaster.' Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez confirmed on Saturday night that Cavani was injured. "That is our best chance against any adversary, and we know that France will be very tough indeed".

The early kick-off saw a World Cup classic ensue as France defeated Argentina 4-3.

In FIFA World Cup, the Round of Sixteen is beginning from today. "He gives us confidence that we can win every match".
