George Clooney injured in Italian motorbike crash

George Clooney is recovering at home after a scooter accident in Sardinia.

The actor slammed his motorbike into an oncoming auto that turned suddenly into his lane on Tuesday and was thrown several meters in the air on the Italian island of Sardinia, according to a video of the crash. The video shows what is reported as Clooney's scooter crashing into the vehicle while another scooter alongside him manages to veer around it.

"George Clooney fell and slammed the windshield of the Mercedes".

The daily says the 57-year-old Clooney had been headed to a film set on Tuesday when his motorbike was hit by a vehicle. He fell. The vehicle driver called an ambulance. Local daily La Nuova Sardegna says Clooney's injuries aren't serious, but that he was taken to the John Paul II hospital emergency room.

Clooney is a frequent visitor to Italy.

Cicognani told CNN he had spoken with Clooney, who said he was "fine" and confirmed he would resume filming of a mini-series of Catch-22, based on the book by Joseph Heller, in a couple of days. Earlier this month, George and Amal were spotted out together on a romantic date night at La Tavernetta in Sardinia.

Clooney's wife, human rights attorney Amal Clooney, rushed to his side after the incident.
