George Clooney injured in scooter accident in Italy

Local daily La Nuova Sardegna said Clooney, 57, had been headed to a film set on Tuesday when his motorbike was hit by a vehicle.

According to local Italian media reports, the actor, who is in Sardinia to film a miniseries was travelling along a state road in Costa Corallina when the accident occurred.

According to the site, George was said to be hit by a vehicle which suddenly changed direction at a spot close to a hotel.

A photo published on La Nuova Sardegna website shows a black scooter on one side of the road, with a dark blue estate vehicle facing the other way, at an angle across the central reserve.

Clooney was taken to a hospital and the injuries are not believed to be serious, according to La Nuova.

Clooney, 57, had just left his hotel on a motor scooter when he crashed into a small truck, Italy's Chi magazine said on its website. Clooney allegedly said that he was "fine" and that he would continue filming his Catch-22 mini-series in a few days.

The hospital confirmed to NBC News that Clooney has already been discharged.

George and Amal were seen arrive in the island on a private jet at the end of June with their twins Alexander and Ella.

Sardinia is a large Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea and is over 500 miles from Clooney's villa in Lake Como.

In April, the legendary thespian announced he was cutting down his acting role in the Hulu production so he could focus on directing.
