Giuliani: Tapes Show Cohen 'Explaining Something' Trump 'Doesn't Understand'

On Friday, we learned about the existence a tape Trump's fixer Michael Cohen recorded in Septemeber 2016 where Donald Trump discussed purchasing the rights to former Playboy model Karen McDougal's affair story from the National Enquirer.

The audio is muffled, but Trump can be heard saying "pay with cash", though it isn't clear if he is suggesting to pay with cash or not to pay with cash.

Cohen had secretly recorded the conversation in 2016. Davis isn't wrong. And the release of the tape suggests that we have now entered a new phase in the ongoing drama surrounding Cohen and Trump - one in which the man who once pledged he would take a bullet for his boss has now turned on him amid the possibility of major criminal charges following the raid of Cohen's hotel, house and office by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in April.

Either way, the move has incited a harsh war of words between Davis and Giuliani, and is the final sign that Cohen has flipped on the man he used to say he would take a bullet for.

The tape involves Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who says she had a months-long fling with Trump after they met in 2006, shortly after Trump's wife Melania gave birth to their son, Barron.

Cohen's attorney has said he released the tape after being subjected to an "intense campaign of disparagement" by the president's team. Was he taping the conversation to protect himself in case Trump later denied knowledge of Cohen's actions?

Giuliani has said the proposed payment was a personal matter and not subject to campaign finance law.

"I need to open up a company for the transfer of all of that info regarding our friend, David, you know, so that - I'm going to do that right away", Mr Cohen says.

An audio recording released on CNN's Cuomo Prime Time on Tuesday night is a bombshell. "I got it." The audio cuts to what appears to be a new recording after that.

In recent weeks, Cohen, who has not been charged with any crimes, has shown increasing signs of a willingness to turn against Trump.

Michael Cohen and the publisher of the National Enquirer forged an alliance over the years, looking out for the interests of Donald Trump and each other.

The tape was one of 12 seized from Cohen's files by NY prosecutors back in April, and the airing of the McDougal conversation is sure to escalate the war between the Trump and Cohen camps.

Trump interrupts Cohen asking, "What financing?" according to the recording. "Not that he's not a fine lawyer, very experienced, but he's making Michael Cohen seem to be Mother Teresa".
