Pompeo speaks with Russian FM on Trump-Putin meeting

Persistent U.S. accusations that Trump and his campaign colluded with Russian Federation in an attempt to influence the 2016 presidential elections and differing views over global affairs, such as conflicts in Syria and Ukraine, have divided the two leaders, however.

The Kremlin said Putin did not plan to meet United States politicians who are visiting Russian Federation this week. The two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral relations, national security and top worldwide issues.

Trump is expected to begin formal preparations for the Putin meeting in the coming days, according to aides.

Not to mention the ongoing investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller on links between the Trump campaign in 2016 and Russian Federation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday that Putin and Trump may meet one-on-one during their summit in Helsinki. Another summit is due on July 16th in Helsinki still aimed at world peace.

"I would say our (NATO's) major areas of deterrence would be Russia and the malign activities of Russia, the efforts of Russia to divide our democratic nations, INF (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces) Treaty violations", she said.

"We are competitors, but we don't necessarily need to be adversaries", said Shelby, a Republican senator from Alabama, in televised comments.

It remains to be seen if Moscow would agree, in part or in full, with the 12 American demands put forward by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in May for Iran to comply with.

While the senior administration official said the summit must focus on carrying out a "sober assessment of the root causes" of problems in the US-Russia, the official also called the summit "a deliverable in itself".

On the issue of arms control, the official said the USA intends to raise Russian violations of the INF arms treaty during the meeting and discuss the fate of arms control agreements between the two countries. President Trump could not have imagined better news before Americans hit the road this summer, and before midterm elections in the US.
