Shocking! IHOP Acknowledges It Faked IHOb Name Change

On June 11, the International House of Pancakes made a big announcement: they were changing their name to "IHOb", at least temporarily, standing for "International House of Burgers", and unveiling a new product on the menu.

The tweet from "IHOP" also poked fun of itself for changing to "IHOB", saying "That's right, IHOP!".

A month after causing an uproar by announcing it was transforming from International House of Pancakes into International House of Burgers, the restaurant chain admitted what some (including me) suspected from the start. "That's right, IHOP! We'd never turn our back on pancakes (except for that time we faked it to promote our new burgers)", the chain said.

IHOb attracted a few burns from another restaurant chain.

Pancakes and burgers coexist in harmony. And as it turns out they're not even changing their name after all.

Prior to the IHOb campaign, 19% of USA adults said they had talked about the chain in the past two weeks. Some fans called the name change "bizarre" and "a nightmare".

"Just because we have pancakes doesn't mean we can't do anything but pancakes. Consequently, we needed to make a bold signal to disrupt people's thinking about IHOP and make it IHOb".
