The Doctor Who Series 11 Trailer is Here!

The Doctor Who Series 11 Trailer is Here!

Doctor Who returns this autumn. However, we get a good but tiny glimpse at the Doctor's new sonic screwdriver which only whets audiences' curiosity about the ingenious inventions which Jodie's character might make this season.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2018, BBC unveiled the first trailer for Doctor Who series 11, which is set to introduce Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch) as the Thirteenth Doctor.

So we were excited, but there was still an expectation, a hope, for something more.

"I knew obviously being the first female it was going to have some extra responsibility thrown it", said Whittaker.

But we want some something! Mandip Gill will play Yasmin, also called Yaz, who she described as a 19-year-old girl "who asked for more and got more-so be careful what you ask for-and went along on this adventure and found this family". Circumspect like the new Doctor, the new companions were pretty tight lipped.

One thing that is heavily emphasized both in the press room and main panel is the commitment to 'newness'. You can watch it here if you haven't seen it yet.

Fans were treated previous year to a brief glimpse of Whittaker, walking towards the Tardis in a forest, in a clip shown after the Wimbledon tennis final on BBC television. "Any age, any gender, anyone can wear it!" she said, to applause from the crowd.

Her Universe is a clothing line created by someone else who had quite a big day yesterday - Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano in the Star Wars animated shows.

"The thing about this role, which is why it is so awesome for any actor to play the role, is that essentially gender is irrelevant, and that's completely liberating", Whittaker said. "There is no barrier to entry this year". It's a big inclusive mainstream accessible series of ten really varied, exciting, standalone stories. "You don't know what you're looking for until you see it".

He said the upcoming season features writers of color for the first time, plus female guest writers, female directors and an editing team that's all female except one person. "The relationship between the three is attractive", Gill did say and added it will evolve over the 10 episodes of the new season. I have to say, the amount of cosplayers we saw dressed as Thirteen before she's even been on TV only reinforced her impact.
