England v India: James Anderson strikes twice before rain returns at Lord's

And again before we could see the ultimate battle of Anderson v Kohli in these conditions at Lord's, the rain gods have their say.

The clear blue of Wednesday turned into a bleak grey on Thursday morning and what started off as a light drizzle turned into a strong shower later in the afternoon to pour cold water on whatever chances there were of the second Test match between India and England starting off.

Nothing doing: Rain clouds hang above the pitch at Lord's.

It was the first time a whole day's Test play in England had been lost to bad weather since 24 August 2013 when the fourth day of the fifth Ashes clash at The Oval was abandoned without a ball bowled. However, two of them have come at the "Mecca of Cricket", the last one coming back in 2014 owing to Ishant Sharma's brilliance in the second innings.

Neither team have named their final XI, although 20-year-old batsman Ollie Pope will make his England debut.

According to the images of the team-sheet circulating on social media, England are set to replace Ben Stokes with Chris Woakes as the Rajasthan Royals all-rounder misses out due to his ongoing affray trail. As play got washed off on Day 1 of the 2nd Test, the actor faced flak for his dressing sense as trollers could not resist. Coming to 2nd Test which is to be played at Lord's India will look to settle score and all eyes will be on skipper Kohli who is in fantastic form.
