Transfer: Manchester United, Tottenham close to sealing deal on £60million defender

According to a report in the Mirror, Alderweireld will be joining United for £60m.

Marco Silva insists that Everton have been aware of his transfer targets since his first day at the club and stressed that their season hinges on bringing in reinforcements before Thursday's deadline.

Everton makes bid for Marcos Rojo: After purchasing Richarlison and Lucas Digne, the Toffees keep making moves and make a reported bid for Manchester United's Marcos Rojo. However, with Tottenham demanding as much as £75 million for his services, the 20-time English champions were dissuaded from making a move for the Belgian.

The Mancunians were then linked with a £35 million move for Barcelona centre-back Yerry Mina, with reports earlier this week claiming that the club had agreed personal terms with the Colombian global. And it seems like Tottenham are ready to cash in on Toby Alderweireld now. Constant rumours of the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina have been floating around the corner.

Jose Mourinho has been looking to strengthen his options in central defence ahead of the new season and the Colombia global is on the United manager's shortlist. The report states that the player was close to signing a huge five-year deal with the Red Devils.

Injuries and distractions due to the contract situation meant the former Southampton man went through a rough patch and lost his place to new signing Davinson Sanchez in Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI.

That meant less game time for the 29-year-old. Jose could possibly line the player up alongside Eric Bailly for the 2018-19 season.

Toby Alderweireld had an fantastic World Cup where he played a key role in helping Belgium finish third.

Mina, despite his efforts during this summer's World Cup, is not believed to be in the plans of Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde as the club gear up for the new season. Now, he is also set to meet his new manager to discuss his future and his late arrival in preseason.
