Amazon tipped to launch 8 Alexa smart home and vehicle gadgets

Amazon is all set to introduce a range of Alexa-powered devices before the end of the year. Among those could be a microwave oven, a subwoofer, an amplifier, and an "in-car gadget".

According to the report, Amazon is expected to reveal at least some of the devices later this month. It is worth adding that some of the OEMs have already launched devices and even cars that support Amazon Alexa voice assistant.

Alexa is Amazon's virtual assistant, which competes with Google Assistant. Amazon has often taken a scattershot approach to its hardware initiatives, releasing not only massively successful products like the Echo home devices, but also experimental projects like Echo Buttons, a light-up device designed for gaming.

What the "in-car gadget" wasn't described, but the report noted that Garmin Ltd. now offers an Alexa-enabled dash cam. And in its most recent earnings report, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos hinted at his ambition for making Alexa more widely used. By partnering with smart home installation companies, Amazon can make its Alexa-powered devices more readily available in new homes. Now, just a few years later, consumers have embraced other Alexa-enabled household devices including smart thermostats, TVs, door locks, vacuums, and security cameras. Sonos has a similar business model. There are also products such as the Roav Viva from Anker, an Alexa device which plugs into the 12-volt socket and plays music through the car's Bluetooth-enabled speaker system. Around this time past year, Amazon revealed the newest members of the Echo family: the Echo Spot and updated Echo speakers. Unlike many online publications, we don't have a paywall or run banner advertising, because we want to keep our journalism open, without influence or the need to chase traffic.

Alexa previously got visual with the Echo Show.
