Pakistan PM to visit Riyadh, seek loan on first foreign trip

After his plane landed in Medina, Prime Minister Khan, in an apparent show of respect for the holy land, was seen coming out of the plane wearing only socks on his feet.

The sale of bulletproof luxury vehicles, helicopters and even eight buffalo drew hundreds of curious onlookers but few buyers to an "austerity-drive" auction held by the Pakistani government this week.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will leave for Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for his first trip since taking oath as the country's premier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said.

Khan said that the best way to alleviate poverty and uplift the people of the sub-continent is to resolve differences between the two sides through dialogue and start trading.

On Sunday, Khan announced that his government is considering granting nationality to Afghan refugees and Bengali children who were born in Pakistan.

Responding to a question on incidents of infiltration at the border, he said, "Did you all expect a change?" I am returning back to England to mobilise expatriates to join hands and line up behind Imran Khan in building a Naya Pakistan by investing in the private and public sector.

Dialogue with Pakistan can happen only if the environment is "conducive" for talks, the minister added on the sidelines of the opening of a two-day conference - Smart Border Management - organised by FICCI.

He will watch the Pakistan-India Asia Cup clash in Dubai on Wednesday, diplomatic sources said. He said that it has been an issue which is being discussed for a long time now but no progress has been made by India's neighbours.

The UNHCR will continue to closely work with the government of Pakistan on these issues in the coming weeks, he added.

Last month, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that the PTI government will try to sell the vehicles on the same price at their market value as the auction is aimed at fund-raising.
