John Oliver slams Trump's 'bromance' with Saudi Crown Prince

If wrestlers with the WWE are indeed expressing "discomfort" with plans to perform in Saudi Arabia next month, as an anonymous-sourced Sports Illustrated article says today, last night's excoriating report by HBO's John Oliver could only have pumped them up even more. WWE responded with the following, "As always, we maintain an open line of communication with our performers, as we continue to monitor the situation".

It might seem like an odd confluence of events, but the WWE is now in the middle of an worldwide incident involving the suspected murder of a Saudi journalist in Turkey and a wrestling event that's due to take place next month in Riyadh.

Layfield also ripped on the USA senators who called on WWE to pull out of Saudi Arabia.

However a singles match with Michaels that was rumoured to take place just two weeks after Crown Jewel at Survivor Series might be put on-hold, as the same source has told Ringside News that he hasn't agreed to appear at the Los Angeles event yet.

They became the target of a blistering, 18-minute report on "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" this past Sunday - which also covered the ongoing political tensions between the United States and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Khashoggi situation.

Oliver said Trump and the prince were "similar in some of the worst possible ways", including a love of money and self-promotion.

Several senators have come forward and urged WWE to scrap the Crown Jewel event - and its agreement with Saudi Arabia entirely - in the wake of Khashoggi's disappearance and alleged murder. "So the private interests should review, but so should the United States government". "WWE has been at the forefront of change and you want to change Saudi Arabia, you send something like WWE there".
