Countdown to possible recount in Florida races

Countdown to possible recount in Florida races

Most US political races have already been settled.

In Broward County, Circuit Judge Carol-Lisa Phillips set a 7 p.m. Friday deadline for Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes to turn over the voter information under Florida's open records laws.

Florida is not alone.

In Arizona, hundreds of thousands of ballots were still left to be counted in a fierce battle for the Senate as Kyrsten Sinema - now a Democratic congresswoman - edged ahead of Martha McSally, a Republican congresswoman.

The announcement comes just one day after Florida Gov. Rick Scott - the Republican candidate for US Senate in the state - requested the state law enforcement agency investigate possible fraudulent activity in Broward and Palm Beach counties as his race against Democratic Sen.

Speaking during an interview with Fox Business on Friday, McDaniel warned about the consequences of fraud for every voter throughout the country and vowed to continue fighting against corrupt officials in Broward County.

Elias notably served as the lead counsel for Sen. Al Franken's 2008 election recount and contest for the Senate race in Minnesota.

"Well, it could be", Trump said when asked if the federal government could get involved, "because if you look at Broward, and Palm Beach to a lesser extent, if you look at Broward County, they have had a disgusting history". Instead, Scott and the NRSC argue, Bucher and her staff simply used their own judgment when determining voters' intent.

Scott, expressing concern about "rampant fraud" in the two counties, also directed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate the election offices.

The American President also promised to send the best lawyers in Florida "for exposing fraud" on the part of Democrats, who, according to trump, "the miracle began to find voice" in favor of their candidate.

Elias, a Democratic elections lawyer who has a good success rate with candidates caught up in statewide recounts, said he understands why Scott and his allies are so anxious, with the election night margin of 30,000 votes now cut in half.

Broward was at the heart of Florida's bitter legal brawls in 2000.

Florida's secretary of state, a Scott appointee, is tasked with overseeing state-mandated recounts. A decision has not yet been made in that lawsuit.

In a machine recount, all completed ballots are re-fed through ballot-counting machines to try to confirm the original, unofficial counts.

7News cameras captured the chaotic scene after supporters of DeSantis' Democratic opponent, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, showed up in front of the Lauderhill building to demand that every ballot is counted.

On Thursday morning, Mr Gillum's team walked back his earlier concession to Republican Mr DeSantis and indicated they are ready for a recount.

Under Florida law, a 0.5 percent margin in an election automatically triggers a machine recount, while a 0.25 percent margin automatically triggers a manual recount, or recount by hand. Trump said he was sending lawyers to heavily Democratic Broward County.

His lawsuit, announced on Thursday night, claims the election officials did not provide enough information and transparency around uncounted ballots.

The unusual pattern appeared in no other Florida county, the newspaper reported. Lawyers sue over ballot... If the signature on the ballot envelope doesn't match state records, the vote is rejected.
