Facebook and Instagram hit by service issue

Facebook and Instagram hit by service issue

The outage comes as Facebook's stock price continues to slide.

Time spent on Instagram is also not counted, but that's understandable, seeing how they are essentially separate apps.

Facebook is always keen to ensure that it, erm, takes influence from other companies' ideas (just ask Snapchat about the changes Zuck's minions made to Instagram).

To express their thoughts and make light of the situation users are taking to Twitter using the hashtags #Facebookdown #Instagramdown. #InstagramDown is also trending on Twitter.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the websites crashed around the world, less than a day after the Facebook Messenger app experienced similar problems.

'We are planning to introduce Dark Mode after we've finished rolling out the new Messenger to everyone globally, ' Facebook wrote.

A rush of issues have been reported this lunchtime, as users report being unable to load the page at all.

"We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible", Facebook tweeted.

Facebook's outage appears to be global.

After more than one hour of outages, some Australian users reported that they had regained access to the messaging service.
