Officials say 911 outage issue resolved, but glitches still possible

CenturyLink says they are working to restore services as quickly as possible following reports of outages Thursday morning across the country, including parts of Arizona.

Officials in Sweetwater County, Wyoming resorted to publishing alternate phone numbers for those needing emergency services, as the CenturyLink outage affected the Sweetwater Combined Communications Center, which receives 911 calls for the region.

"Its breadth and duration are particularly troubling", he said.

If you can not locate your police station's emergency phone number, call the State 911 Department at 508-872-2508, tell the dispatcher the exact location of the emergency and the dispatcher will transfer you to the correct police department. Among those also affected by the outage was Central Oregon's largest medical care provider, where phones stopped working at 2 a.m. Thursday.

Asked about the FCC investigation, a spokeswoman for CenturyLink said the company had been in contact with the federal agency and would cooperate fully.

In an emergency, try to dial 911 first, police say.

At 6:20 a.m. Friday, the district reported 911 services in the region were restored, although several law enforcement agencies said on social media the service was out again later Friday morning.

At the Parker County Sherriff's Office shortly after 10 a.m., some 911 calls were coming through and others weren't.

A Nationwide outage reaching from NY to California has been causing headaches since early Thursday morning. A spokesman for Louisiana-based CenturyLink said he could not offer more than the information posted on Twitter at this point.

CenturyLink calls itself "the second largest US communications provider to global enterprise customers". Telecommunications company CenturyLink tweeted Friday that it had been dealing with a "network event" and "all customer service" had been restored.
