New report details craziness surrounding Knicks' Kristaps Porzingis trade

The New York Knicks were provided a list of four teams Kristaps Porzingis deemed acceptable as trade partners.

As Kristaps Porzingis lifted his new Mavericks threads during Monday's introductory press conference in Dallas, it was the official end to a insane few days that saw the 7-foot-3 Latvian go from the Knicks' franchise star, to a disgruntled one looking for a new beginning, to the centerpiece in a shocking blockbuster deal. Dallas also got Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr and Trey Burke in the deal.

Similarly, newly-acquired big man Kristaps Porzingis only became a Maverick within this past week but his association to the organization in the form of comparisons to Nowitzki have been alive for years.

"The city deserves better than that".

But at the very least, Knicks fans, you can't say they didn't try. "Peace", Porzingis wrote on his Instagram account. It's anyone's guess how the Mavericks will play, so it leaves them in limbo.

While Knicks President Steve Mills said Porzingis made it clear in their meeting last week that he wanted out, the fourth overall pick in 2015 said he preferred to discuss the future rather than dwell on the past.

With that being the Knicks' obvious play in this deal, rival executives told Stein they liked the trade as they believe "the Knicks must have some promising inside information about their ability to lure the likes of [Kevin] Durant and [Kyrie] Irving". Of course both teams shot them down.

In his final game as a Maverick, DSJ recorded a triple-double against the Knicks on January 30. For that talent, at age 23, and on a potentially-cheap qualifying offer for 2019-20, it gave the New York Knicks two first-round picks: an unprotected selection in 2021 and a protected one for 2023.

"I can answer that for him", Cuban said. That was met with eye-rolls around the National Basketball Association - the Knicks can offer five-years, $158 million guaranteed (although they likely will try to get some Joel Embiid style protections in there), if he signs the qualifying offer he gets $4.5 million.
