Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'to be appointed Manchester United boss'

United came into the game eight league games unbeaten under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and took the lead after just 14 minutes, with the rejuvenated Paul Pogba scoring a fine effort at the near post.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is once again without Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia as they continue to work their way back to full fitness but Chris Smalling is back in the squad after recovering from a foot injury.

It's a wonder the Fulham players aren't still trying to get him off their minds, Pogba really did run them ragged through large periods of the game.

The Norwegian said: "I have to trust the players, I didn't feel there was a problem playing any of them". "We have to carry on like that to stay in the top four".

"We know there's a very, very good player there with Fred so hopefully he'll adjust to the English game because there's no doubt there's talent, absolutely no doubt".

Certainly when the draw was made for the Champions League last 16 in December, and they were pitched against Paris St-Germain, there were not many who thought that United could win it.

"We might have been a bit of a laughing stock at the beginning of the season but we're certainly not now".

Gary Neville compared Anthony Martial's goal at Fulham to one Cristiano Ronaldo scored years earlier, but whose was better? They now find themselves occupying one of the Champions League spots at the moments.

"24 points for us to fight for, the other ones in the top four to fight too, but I believe we are going to be there".

"It's always great to score goals but the most important thing is to win games". They have won 25 out of 27 possible points, winning nearly half of their total points in just nine matches, eight less than Jose Mourinho had at disposal previously.

Fulham fans made their feelings clear as they booed Schurrle when he was replaced by Cyrus Christie on 53 minutes and applauded the decision to take off Ryan Babel on 77 minutes after the Netherlands global had hit the post from point blank range.
