Ryan Fox fades at World Golf Championship event in Mexico

Johnson rolled to a five-shot win over Rory McIlroy, shooting a five-under 66 to win the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship - his second win at the event in the past three years. With a 67, McIlroy was left to take consolation from his fourth top-five finish in as many starts this year. He opened his round with three consecutive birdies and four in a row to start the back nine.

Ian Poulter of England (69) and Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat (68) are tied for seventh at 8 under.

Johnson, 34, becomes only the fifth player in the last 50 years to reach 20 PGA Tour wins before the age of 35, putting him in the company of only Woods, Phil Mickelson, Johnny Miller and Tom Watson.

However, the 14-time Major victor didn't perform well with the putter in hand, carding his first four-putt on a non-Major PGA Tour event since 2010 with his efforts on hole 15 on day three.

The 2018 victor was Phil Mickelson, who won the tournament after taking down Justin Thomas in a playoff.

"My game is right there, I'm really happy with everything".

"To get 20 wins out here is very hard, and to do it before I turn 35 is pretty incredible", Johnson said.

"I definitely was thinking about that", he said of the exemption.

"I got a break there and ended up making a nice par", admitted Johnson to reporters afrerwards.

Johnson recovered from just a second blemish of the week to sign for a 66 and finish at 21 under.

Woods played conservatively all week off the tee, hitting more irons than any player in the field.

The two venues are very similar so I'll be referring back to the Puerto Rico Open leaderboard at the end of March when we return to the Dominican Republic for the fourth renewal of the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship.

Dustin Johnson soared to a comprehensive five-stroke victory ahead of Rory McIlroy at the WGC-Mexico Championship. "Some weeks you play well and another guy just plays better than you". "The putts I hit bad were just atrocious. I'm still four behind, it's going to be tough, especially against D.J. who's arguably the best player in the world".

The free drop gave Johnson a clear shot at the green instead of having to chip out backwards, and he salvaged a par which helped settle the jitters.

"My game is right there, I'm really happy with everything".

Tiger Woods got his first top 10 of the year, but it wasn't all that inspiring.

"I didn't let it bother me", Johnson said, "because i knew there was plenty of holes I could make birdie on coming down the stretch". Perhaps playing with an added sense of freedom, he came out firing and tied his own Club de Golf Chapultepec record with a nine-under 62. In contrast, Trainer played the back nine in three-under-par to win by three.
