Facebook responds after users complain of apps being down

This morning, most people received an error message that read "Facebook is down for maintenance" message when they tried to log in.

Millions of people are having trouble accessing the two social media websites, and have been for hours, after a reported outage on both services. "We are investigating the issue and working on a resolution".

Facebook has said it is working to resolve issues disrupting image-sharing site Instagram and messaging application WhatsApp services.

Facebook is keeping users update via its social media pages, saying "the issue is not related to a DDoS attack". Some users have regular access, and some have intermittent access.

In response to the issues, a number of Facebook Messenger users have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment at the problem.

As Facebook's outages dragged on, Twitter lit up with complaints and comments - and, of course, memes and jokes.

The outages appear to be concentrated around the USA and Europe, as well as eastern Australia.

Earlier in Facebook's history, technical issues were a more common occurrence as the social network raced to keep up with explosive user growth.

Facebook has been experiencing an outage that continues to impact some Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Oculus users.

Facebook, on Twitter, last gave an update about ongoing outages on its platforms on it's platforms on Wednesday afternoon.

Other users said the outage was light relief.

A dedicated denial of service attack, or DDoS attack, is when someone floods a website with fake traffic causing the site's performance to suffer when there are not enough resources for real traffic.

The outage not only affected people in the US but also Central and South America Europe and Australia, according to Down Detector. Tens of thousands of people have reported connectivity problems to the site.

The story is developing...

"Yo Facebook & Instagram, you done with not working today?"
