Nancy Pelosi says impeaching Donald Trump 'just not worth it'

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff sided with Pelosi, who said Democrats shouldn't pursue impeachment unless there's overwhelming and bipartisan support for doing so.

"He's just not worth it", she added. It's not an honor to bestow. "It's about what we can do for the people to lower health-care costs, bigger paychecks, cleaner government", she said.

'But maybe not two terms. "So we have to make sure that doesn't happen".

He said that it is his "responsibility to prevent an unfit president from staying in office" and that if he only gets his own single vote, he will have done his job in that regard.

Of course, there are decent arguments against impeachment. Some Democrats fear that, by engaging in the fight, the party would be damaged by the backlash. Does Pelosi think going forward with impeachment is elective?

A failed attempt to remove Trump through impeachment, Fandos wrote, "would only embolden the president's staunchest supporters and could improve his odds of re-election".

One can imagine vaguely that Robert Mueller or a congressional investigation will turn up malfeasance so gross that Senate Republicans will defect en masse.

Bossie said Republicans "became so focused and so dedicated to the end result - which we all thought would be impeachment - that we really we overstepped, we overreached ..."

Last year, heading into the midterm elections, Pelosi discouraged candidates from talking up impeachment, preferring to stick to the kitchen table issues that she believes most resonate with voters.

There are also many non-Russia reasons for impeachment. Ilhan Omar that many lawmakers said were anti-Semitic. "It was unnecessary and the rest", she said.

"Lindsey Graham said himself that you don't have to commit a crime to be impeached when he was making the argument for Clinton, you just have to have kind of defiled the office in a way, which hello, so in every way imaginable". And it's a departure from her previous comments that Democrats are waiting on special counsel Robert Mueller to lay out findings from his Russian Federation investigation before considering impeachment.

Burstein pointed out that Pelosi "has not put the Green New Deal up for a vote, she hasn't even put [Rep.] Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the committee to review it". If Trump were impeached, it would mean half of the nation's last four presidents would have been subject to what traditionalists say should be a last resort. While fighting against his reelection might be the best way to get rid of Trump, it's not necessarily the best path for undoing his assault on important norms of governance.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders on Monday said she was "not aware" of specifics of the $35,000 check Trump wrote in December 2017 to longtime lawyer Michael Cohen.

He said he had learned from what he acknowledged was Republican overreach in efforts initiated in 1998 - efforts he himself helped orchestrate - to impeach Clinton. But she is going a step further.

She said she didn't share that concern.

Panelists on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" laughed out loud after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) deemed President Donald Trump as unworthy of impeachment. "But if they change and they see their Senate majority being in danger in 2020 if they continue to be lemmings who follow him toward the cliff - and they see that - then it might be a different situation".

That's a decision that could haunt the country for generations to come.
