R. Kelly back in custody for failing to pay child support

R. Kelly back in custody for failing to pay child support

Kelly is headed back to Cook County Jail after he was unable to pay more than $161,000 in child support owed to his ex-wife during a hearing Wednesday.

Hours before Wednesday's hearing, CBS aired an interview with the musician - his first public comments since being indicted last month on the sex assault charges - in which he at one point seemed to succumb to his emotions.

R. Kelly performs during The Buffet Tour at Allstate Arena on May 7, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois.

It was not immediately clear why Kelly was taken into custody, and whether it had to do with the unpaid child support he owes.

Cook County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari says Kelly was taken into custody and will be transferred to the county jail. She did not take the stand. Kelly could have gotten 15 years in prison. Kelly admitted during the interview that he is in a relationship with both of them.

After his February 22 arrest in Chicago, Kelly spent a weekend in jail before someone posted his $100,000 bail.

Griggs then said that Kelly settled at least six known cases with nondisclosure agreements with big payouts in the past, and he may be confusing those settlements with the Savages. I understand that you're happy, but why haven't you been able to call any of your family or friends, or come to your granddaddy's funeral?

At one point during King's discussion with Kelly, the singer said he was giving money to the Savage family, and they went to the media about their daughter being held hostage after the payments stopped coming.

He said: "They're lying on me.You can start a rumor about a guy like me or a celebrity just like that".

"I'm talking about the other cases where women have come forward and said: 'R. Why would I? How stupid would it be for R. Kelly, with all I've been through in my way, way past, to hold somebody", he asked.

The woman who posted Kelly's bail after the criminal charges was at the Daley Center on Wednesday but left without speaking to reporters. The couple said they haven't spoken to their 23-year-old daughter for two years and asked Kelly to make her available to talk to them. It said he had engaged in sexual, mental and physical abuse of girls and women.

Tune into CBS In The Morning for part 2 of the King/Kelly interview. You tell me if it's normal.

KELLY: That's stupid! Use your common sense.

"Whether they're old rumours, new rumours, future rumours, not true", said Kelly, who became extremely upset and emotional during the interview. "How stupid would it be for me, with my insane past and what I've been through - oh right now I just think I need to be a monster, and hold girls against their will, chain them up in my basement, and don't let them eat, and don't let them out".
