Trump serves fast food again at White House event

"If it's American, I like it", he said.

"We could've had chefs, we could have, but we had fast food - because I know you people", President Donald Trump said to laughter.

Trump, according to a pool report, introduced the players by the "Bison" team nickname and joked that they told him, "Sir, make sure you say it with a Z".

The original plan for the visit didn't include fast food, or any food for that matter. John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer and Rep. Kelly Armstrong - joined the festivities along with North Dakota first lady Kathryn Helgaas Burgum and state Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem.

The options this time around included Big Macs and sandwiches from Chick-fil-A, while Clemson players also dined on Wendy's burgers, Burger King Whoppers and Domino's pizza. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence lauded the move and said that he loved the spread Trump put on to welcome the team to the White House.

The Bison, who have the most titles in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, ended the season on January 5 with a 38-24 win over Eastern Washington University. As noted by the Washington Post, despite all of the fast food offerings, the team did go on to have lunch at the Capitol.

President Donald Trump is keeping his visits with college athletes consistent.

"It was fantastic, it was something I won't ever forget", Kennelly said. The White House blamed the government shutdown's effect on the kitchen staff (while still forgoing a catered meal from a legitimate restaurant) for the unusual food choice.
