Tyrann Mathieu Has Reportedly Made His Free Agency Decision

The 26-year-old is one of several big-time safeties on a free agent market that also features the likes of Landon Collins, Earl Thomas, Lamarcus Joyner, Adrian Amos and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

The Kansas City Chiefs will sign safety Tyrann Mathieu, according to multiple reports.

Signing Gipson at such a team friendly deal compared to the deals other safeties were getting in the first wave of free agency is an impressive addition for Gaine and the Texans front office.

In 16 games last season with the Texans after he was released by the Cardinals, Mathieu recorded two interceptions, eight passes defended and 89 tackles. While there is sure to be some contractual arm wrestling there - I can not imagine being able to sustain two of the five biggest cap hits in the league at one position, even if you deal Dee Ford and cut Justin Houston - and imagining those two in a defensive backfield together should be intimidating for even the division's most tenured quarterbacks.

A third-round pick out of LSU by the Arizona Cardinals in 2013, Mathieu was a first-team All-Pro selection and Pro Bowl participant in 2015.

Mathieu has appeared in 82 games (73 starts) and tallied 394 tackles, 49 passes defensed, 13 interceptions and seven sacks.

Gipson will be joining former Jacksonville Jaguars teammate Aaron Colvin after he signed to the Texans in the last free agency period.
